“You could cry or die
Or just make pies all day.
I’m making pies.” -Making Pies, Patty Griffin

Happy Thanksgiving! Even though it is sad to be far from family on holidays, it has been a lovely Thanksgiving here, and I am grateful for a beautiful, restful day. Our team came together over the last 2 days to make a pretty traditional feast. We substituted chickens for turkey, but we had mashed potatoes, stuffing, pumpkin pie, and even a little imported cranberry sauce.

Liana and I worked together yesterday to make a pecan pie, using our last bag of weevil-free pecans brought all the way from Trader Joe’s. It was fun to have the familiar Thanksgiving flavor so far from the US.

What a gift to pause for a day and revel in gratefulness. I am grateful for my family, for my community here, for times of rest and celebration, for hope and laughter, and for making pies with Liana. Hope your Thanksgiving is also deliciously abundant!

I have to admit those pies were delicious. I wanted to let you know how much we appreciated the invite to get to share Thanksgiving evening with you guys. It was an unexpected end to our trip. I’m now sitting in Birmingham, AL suffering from severe jet lag wishing greatly to be back in Sudan. Enjoyed the conversation on Biblical Counseling, wished we could have discussed further. I even read some of Powlison’s material on the plane ride home. Anyways, thanks again for your hospitality, and we will be praying for your team.
